BA History and Italian provides you with the opportunity to study aspects of history that interest you most, from ancient, medieval, modern, and economic and social history, to the history of science, technology and medicine.You will also develop knowledge of the language and culture of Italy from the medieval period to the present day . **History** - We offer one of the most diverse history courses in the UK, with our course units covering almost all of human history, including British, European, American, Asian and African history, and ranging from the classical era (Greece and Rome), through the medieval and modern periods, to the late 20th century.- We offer a wide variety of approaches to history, from political and economic history, to gender, social, cultural, and colonial history.- You will benefit from studying in the historically rich city of Manchester; itself is a living history book - from Peterloo to the anti-slavery movement, and from Roman and Anglo-Saxon forts to medieval monuments. - You can draw on the abundant library, archive and museum holdings of the local area, including Chetham's Library, The Museum of Science and Industry, The People's History Museum and the Working Class Movement Library. - You will also have access to one of only five National Research Libraries, including the special collections of The John Rylands Library, as well as the exclusive holdings of Manchester Museum. **Italian** - The course units offered combine the study of history, politics, and the literary, linguistic and visual culture of the peninsula, and are taught by specialists in the fields. - We offer a linguistics pathway through the course for those interested in the history of the Italian language and its dialects. - Language courses, taught by native speakers at post A-Level or beginners' level, involve comprehension, translation, grammar and oral work.- Our excellence in teaching and learning in Italian has been recognised internally and nationally: a colleague won a Teaching Excellence Award and one has secured national funding to develop use of digital resources in teaching by bringing our libraries' special collections into the age of the app. - You will benefit from extensive interaction with Italian cultural agencies in the North West.- You will also benefit the world-class Italian collections within the John Rylands Library, including one of the largest collections of early Italian printed books in the UK.

Art or Fine Art A-levels are particularly welcomed; however, please note that applicants with three arts-based subjects (for example, Art, Graphics and 3D Design,?or Art, Photography and Design and Technology), or a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design on its own will not be considered as meeting our entry requirements.We do not require a pass in the Science Practical Assessment.Typical Contextual Offer: AABA mixture of science or maths and humanities or arts subjects is preferred, but not essential.
