The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures offers graduate degree programs in Spanish and French, as well as an MA emphasis area in foreign language teaching. The department’s faculty and graduate student seminars are an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental series seeking to provide a collegial atmosphere in which scholars can present their recent work. The department strongly encourages study abroad as a way to reinforce language skills, broaden one’s horizons, and add an unforgettable experience to a meaningful university education.

Students may obtain a BA with a major in Spanish with a minimum of 30 hours of Spanish beyond 2100. Additionally, coursework must be completed with a grade in the C range or higher in each of the required courses and students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in the major. Students must meet all major requirements listed below, as well as all College of Arts & Science and University graduation requirements, including University general education.

Students who work towards a double major (two BA degrees within the College of Arts and Science) may be able to complete the majors with a minimum of 120 hours. Students who are considering a dual degree program (in Arts & Science and in another school or college) are advised that a minimum of 132 credit hours are necessary.

为来自中国的学生设计 Minimum Admission Requirements: Have earned a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Have earned a 3.0 or better GPA in the last 60 hours of baccalaureate coursework (for applicants with less than a master’s degree). Language Requirements: TOEFL Internet-based - 80 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 17 each), IELTS Academic - 6.5 (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing - 6 each), PTE - 59, Cambridge C1 Advanced - 180.
