Program Requirements

Students are admitted to either the practicum-based MA route or the course-only MA and may register full-time or part-time.

For both routes ★27 of graduate-level courses are required as follows:

Practicum-based route

Required courses (★15):

POL S 527 - Power, Politics, and Policymaking in Canada POL S 532 - Indigenous Engagement, Governance, and Policy POL S 803 - Policy Studies Practicum I POL S 804 - Policy Studies Practicum II POL S 902 - Policy Studies Capstone Seminar

Electives (★12)

Students are permitted to take up to ★6 (two ★3 courses) from outside the department, subject to departmental approval.

Course-only route

Required courses (★9):

POL S 527 - Power, Politics, and Policymaking in Canada POL S 532 - Indigenous Engagement, Governance, and Policy POL S 902 - Policy Studies Capstone Seminar

Electives (★18)

Students are permitted to take up to ★6 (two ★3 courses) from outside the department, subject to departmental approval.

Language Requirement

There is no language requirement.

Residency Requirement

The minimum period of residence for full-time programs is two four-month terms of full-time attendance at the University of Alberta.

Length of Program

The time required to complete the program will vary with the program and candidate. Full-time students in the program will normally complete the program within 20 months.

为来自中国的学生设计 The Faculty's minimum admission requirements for the master's thesis and course-based programs are a four year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, in physical education, kinesiology, recreation or another related degree, with a minimum admission grade point average of 3.0 on most 4.0 grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on the most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent).
