在这里学什么？

Get equipped with all the practical and theoretical skills required to educate and nurture children from birth to eight years. The course is taken as a double degree with a Bachelor of Arts, providing a comprehensive, liberal education for all new teachers. You will learn to combine your theoretical knowledge with your curriculum studies and put them to practical use in a variety of work placements.

This course is also offered in the department of college of humanities, arts, and social sciences.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

• topics in teaching and educational contexts, and play, learning and development
• five days of professional experience placements in early childhood and community settings
• topics contributing to your arts component

Second year

A typical second year may include:

• topics in literacy and numeracy, and the expressive arts in early childhood
• 20 days of professional experience placements in early childhood and community settings
• topics contributing to your arts component

Third year

A typical third year may include:

• topics in numeracy and multiliteracies in design and technology, thinking and working mathematically, and health and physical education in early childhood
• 35 days of professional experience placements in early childhood and community settings
• topics contributing to your arts component

Fourth year

A typical fourth year may include:

• extensive study in the area of language and literacy
• study in the lives of children using theoretical perspectives drawn from sociology, psychology and childhood studies
• 35 days of professional experience placements in early childhood and community settings
• a capstone topic reflecting on the role of the professional educator
• topics contributing to your arts component

Your career

Although the majority of education graduates go on to employment as teachers in the public or private sector, some choose to follow other pathways.

Potential occupations include:

• early childhood teacher
• youth and children’s support officer
• language literacy and numeracy teacher/assessor.
