The Global Studies is comprised of at least 39 credits in a multidisciplinary program that consists of:

Required Foundational Courses

GS 101 Introduction to Global Studies GS 150 World Geography A 110 Human Cultural Diversity PO 122 Introduction to International Relations EC-101 Introduction to Economics PO 332 International Political Economy GS 301 Senior Seminar GS 302 Senior Thesis in Global Studies

Elective Courses

A total of six courses to be distributed across two areas (three courses in each area)

• Asian Area Studies
• Middle Eastern and African Studies
• European Area Studies
• International Systems
• Latin American Area Studies

Foreign Language Study

Global Studies majors are required to take six credits of a foreign language. This can be accomplished through foreign language study at SHU and/or by participation in a semester study abroad program. Language courses are considered supporting course work.

Global Studies Learning Outcomes

• Identify, explain, evaluate, and synthesize multiple disciplinary perspectives when exploring global challenges.
• Understand contemporary global problems within their historical, political, cultural, geographical and economic contexts.
• Analyze the differential effects of political and economic organizations in addressing complex problems in the human and natural worlds.
• Develop cultural competency through comparative analysis of two or more cultures historically or in contemporary contexts to demonstrate awareness of varied cultures and worldviews.
• Demonstrate knowledge of world geography and conditions in relation to current events and evaluates the ways that human actions influence the natural and human world.
• Explain and analyze the ethical, social, and environmental consequences of global systems and identify a range of actions informed by one’s sense of personal and civic responsibility.
• Develop and articulate solutions to global problems through critical thinking, analysis, oral, and written communication.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants have completed the equivalent of a United States secondary-school education (approximately twelve years of formal education) and have the appropriate diploma or satisfactory results on leaving examinations. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test or 80 on the TOEFL iBT; IELTS – 6.5 PTE – 62; iTEP – 5; ELS English for Academic Purposes - Level 112; Education First (EF) - C1; Cambridge Advanced English – 58; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) – 5.5; Cambridge Certificate in Proficiency in English (CPE) – 5.5.
