专业概况

If you love music, a degree in musicology—the scholarly study of music—is a natural fit with your Master of Library Science. The two degrees are great preparation for a career with an academic music library, special collection, or archive. Or you could work in an orchestra library or the music collections at a public library or museum. You’ll earn the M.A. through the Department of Musicology at IU’s Jacobs School of Music—one of the best music schools in the world. And you’ll earn two degrees in fewer credit hours—and less time—than it would take to earn them separately.

Z504 Cataloging

Two 3 credit hour Z605 internships in one or two areas related to music librarianship, such as music cataloging, music collection development, music reference, or music technology. The director of the Music Librarianship Specialization must approve the internships. M539 and Z504 are prerequisites.

Z655 Music Librarianship: You must take M539 and Z504 before or with this course.

M.L.S. Electives (3 cr.)

M.A. Requirements (30 cr.)

The Jacobs School of Music provides information about the M.A. requirements.

Graduation

You will graduate after you finish both degrees—the degrees must be awarded simultaneously.
