What's it take to succeed in PR? Image is almost everything, but there's a lot you'll need to learn. Suffolk University's public relations major will ground you in the business—and the art—of crafting attention-getting, thought-provoking campaigns that make a difference.

You’ll begin by learning the foundations of public relations, including its history, theory, trends, and practices. You’ll take courses in professional writing, digital and social media, web design, and event planning and promotion. All of this leads to advanced courses in planning public relations campaigns for corporate or nonprofit class clients.

You'll learn from professors with extensive experience in the field. At Suffolk, it's easy to gain hands-on experience of your own, too: Our campus is enviably close to Boston's leading PR firms and media organizations—employers who routinely hire Suffolk students as interns.

Learning Objectives

• Develop an understanding of the history, theory, and ethical practice of public relations
• Develop the specific skills of public relations, including research, writing, planning, organizing, speaking, and related activities
• Examine the interaction between public relations and broader political, social, and cultural contexts
• Develop an understanding of and ability to use public relations strategies/tactics
• Working as a team, students are able to construct and implement a public relations campaign
• Develop the ability to use various social media in the field of public relations
• Construct and deliver a presentation
