专业概况

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a major in psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner can be completed in as few as 15 months. Registered nurses (RNs) with a minimum of a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree will advance their skills to the entry level for certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN-PMHNP). This degree will position the advanced practice registered nurse to deliver specialized assessment and treatment, evidence-based care, and evaluation of mental health care in collaboration with inter-professional teams and partners. The 40-credit hour curriculum includes courses emphasizing the competencies for PMHNPs developed by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), in addition to the Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing as established by the AACN. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan) Certification Exam.

This hybrid post-professional master’s degree program will prepare post-baccalaureate nurses or post-master’s prepared nurses to practice in psychiatric mental health practitioner roles in a variety of health care institutions. Graduates will be prepared to skillfully translate research and utilize evidenced-based practice knowledge to direct individual and population health care with a focus on mental and behavioral health.
