专业概况

在这里学什么？

NSU provides hands-on instruction combined with extensive in-classroom experience – including courses held within an actual elementary school – to prepare you to become an effective and engaging elementary school teacher.

The elementary education program is the largest education program at NSU. Here, you’ll learn to create lessons that actively involve children and address a wide variety of learning styles.

You’ll also be encouraged to enhance your employability by earning endorsements in birth through preschool education, kindergarten education, middle level education, and coaching. NSU also offers minors in coaching, early childhood education, mathematics for elementary teachers, music for elementary teachers, science for elementary teachers, social science for elementary teachers, reading, and special education.

At NSU, you’ll learn to use the latest instructional technologies. Students in NSU’s program receive an iPad, and learn to use these and other technology tools in elementary school. Through a partnership with the Aberdeen School District, several NSU elementary education classes are held at the new Mike Miller Elementary school - where all students have access to their own iPad and other recent educational technologies.

Our partnership with the school district and community extends beyond the classroom with education clubs and extracurricular activities involving K-12 students.

NSU’s Williams Library recently opened a creation lab where you’ll have open access to a 3D printer, 3Doodler Pen, Chromebooks, SMART board and AppleTV.

You’ll also have the unique opportunity to provide reading and writing instruction to K-8 students through the distinguished NSU Reading Clinic.

CAREERS

NSU’s B.S. in elementary education program provides the necessary framework for an entry-level career in teaching. Graduates can pursue careers as elementary teachers or paraprofessionals, or apply to graduate school.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants to NSU must: Rank in the top 60 percent of their high school graduating class; or achieve an ACT composite score of 18 or above; SAT score of 950 or SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading sub scores total of 870 or above or Earn a GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale in all high school courses and complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade of "C" or higher (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale): Four years of English or ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above or AP English score of 3 or above; Three years of advanced mathematics: Or ACT math sub-test score of 20 or above or AP calculus score of 3 or above; Three years of laboratory science or ACT science reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above or AP science score of 3 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL IBT (61-70 or above); TOEFL PBT (525 or above); IELTS (5.5 or above); PTE Academic (41 or above).
