专业概况

在这里学什么？

NSU’s master's degree in counseling is a two-year plus two-summer program. It has two specializations: clinical mental health and school counseling.

The program leads to a master’s of science in education degree with preparation for K-12 school or clinical mental health counseling certification/licensure.

Students with a clinical mental health degree will be able to work in a variety of settings, including mental health clinics, hospitals, residential facilities, correctional settings, or certain schools. Students with a school counseling degree will be able to counsel students in kindergarten through 12th grade. This program is scheduled to be accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

CAREERS

Students selecting school counseling will be prepared to counsel K-12 children in private, public, or parochial schools.

Students selecting clinical mental health counseling will be prepared to enter into an agency setting working with children, adults, families and groups. They also may work in a career guidance or employment setting.

All students are prepared to take a state licensure or national certification exam in their preparation area.

为来自中国的学生设计 The minimum grade point average for admission to a master's degree program is an overall 2.75 for bachelor's degree work. If you don't meet this minimum GPA, you may be admitted if you've earned a GPA of: 3.00 during your last 64 semester hours of undergraduate credits, or 3.25 in your undergraduate major, or 3.25 in your last 12 credits of graduate work from a program leading to a degree at an accredited institution. English Language Requirements: A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or A minimum score of 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL, or A minimum score of 6 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
