The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree program in Educational Psychology aims to prepare culturally competent scientist-practitioners and researchers to effectively contribute to the psychological development and well-being of children and adolescents. The MA-EDP program offers two areas of concentration (General Educational Psychology and Behavior Assessment) from which students can choose based on their professional goals and interests, each of which prepares students for career-specific applications of the degree.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Behavior Assessment concentration prepares students to work in a variety of settings (e.g., clinical, home, community based, and schools), with a focus on serving people with developmental disabilities (e.g. autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities) or those in need of individualized behavioral supports

PROGRAM OPTIONS

The MA/EDP program requires the successful completion of a minimum of 36 semester credit hours. Our MA/EDP program offers two concentrations: General Educational Psychology and Behavior Assessment:

The General Educational Psychology concentration is designed to provide students flexibility and autonomy in their graduate level studies. Students will work closely with educational psychology faculty. This concentration includes coursework in human development, motivation, learning, research, statistics, evaluation and educational policy. Students may supplement these with courses from other disciplines (e.g., psychology, sociology, educational leadership, special education, bicultural/bilingual education).

The Behavior Assessment concentration focuses on behavior analysis and prepares graduates for eligibility to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Coursework is approved as a Verified Course Sequence by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Students will also gain hands-on experience in real clinical and community settings (such as the San Antonio Applied Behavior Analysis Clinic) or one of UTSA’s many local partners.

A minimum grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from an awarded master's or bachelor's degree may be admitted with no conditions. TOEFL Internet 79, TOEFL Paper 60, IELTS 6.5.
