专业概况

NSU’s B.S.Ed. Physical Education program prepares you for a rewarding and exciting career teaching physical education to K-12 students. From our diverse and experienced faculty, you’ll learn scientific and fitness principles, pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching) and curriculum development.

At NSU, coursework within the major falls into three categories:

• Physical education methodology
• General teacher preparation
• Exercise science

Physical education methodology courses train prospective teachers to promote physical literacy and are specific to the gymnasium.

Teacher preparation and physical education methods coursework, which are required for teacher licensure, prepare you for Praxis content exams and application for teacher licensure in South Dakota.

Students who graduate from this program will also have the strong science background necessary to be an exceptional physical educator, including coursework in anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor behavior.

CAREERS

This major prepares you to teach physical education in a K-12 setting, but also translates well to employment opportunities outside of education, such as the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, fitness centers, and recreation programs. NSU teacher candidates have a 95 percent career placement rate after graduation.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants to NSU must: Rank in the top 60 percent of their high school graduating class; or achieve an ACT composite score of 18 or above; SAT score of 950 or SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading sub scores total of 870 or above or Earn a GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale in all high school courses and complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade of "C" or higher (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale): Four years of English or ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above or AP English score of 3 or above; Three years of advanced mathematics: Or ACT math sub-test score of 20 or above or AP calculus score of 3 or above; Three years of laboratory science or ACT science reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above or AP science score of 3 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL IBT (61-70 or above); TOEFL PBT (525 or above); IELTS (5.5 or above); PTE Academic (41 or above).
