The dual J.D./M.P.A. in Health Care Administration prepares students for a variety of challenging careers in the health care industry including hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, health care agencies, and tele-health among many others. The Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, offered by St. John’s University School of Law in Queens, N.Y., provides extensive legal training in the classroom with engaged faculty through hands-on clinical, co-curricular and externship experiences. The Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) degree, offered by the School of Health Professions & Nursing at LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y., ensures a strong grounding in the principles of health care management and policy. The dual degree provides a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between the law and management arenas.

Health care administration is a growing field in part because the provisions of health services regulation have been substantially expanding. Health care organizations and health care providers, therefore, increasingly need lawyers to assist them in complying with statutes, mandates, rules and regulations. In addition, lawyers are now recognized as members of the health care leadership management team and are sought for input and expertise regarding strategic planning and development endeavour. It can be difficult to break into this field, however, without some educational training and background in health care management and policy. The J.D./M.P.A. dual degree program affords this.

The M.P.A. degree is accredited by NASPAA, the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration. The J.D. degree is accredited by the American Bar Association. This is an overlapping, joint degree program in which students receive 9 credits toward the J.D. for their work in the M.P.A. program, and, in turn, 12 credits toward the M.P.A. for their work in the J.D. program. The J.D. and M.P.A. degrees are awarded separately by their respective institutions upon the successful completion of requirements. Students must apply and secure admission to each institution separately, and may apply for the joint degree after beginning either the M.P.A. or the J.D. program of study.

The program’s unique strengths include mastery of health and bioethics law as well as organizational processes and structures, policy analysis and development, and administrative and management techniques. Earning these two degrees positions students for leadership roles in the rapidly changing and integrated fields of law and health care administration.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have an evidence of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including official transcripts from each institution attended. English Language Requirements: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination. Successful candidates present a score of 500 on the paper-based test; 173 on the computerized test; 61 on the internet based test; or 5.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
