专业概况

在这里学什么？

NSU's biology program emphasizes hands-on activities and critical thinking to bring you to a better understanding of the study of life.

You'll work on-on-one with caring, supportive faculty who encourage independent thinking skills that will prepare you to become a leader in your biological field. Most upper-level courses have no more than 25 students. Northern's biology faculty members teach their own labs - they'll get to know you as a person.

Northern biology students work in science labs with the latest equipment, including a DNA analyzer, confocal microscope, and anaerobic chamber. And, students beginning classes in fall 2019 will be the first of many to study in the new Northern State University Regional Science Education Center, which will advance educational and research opportunities for the university and region - learn more about the center at NSU Master Plan.

In NSU's biology program, you're encouraged to explore your interests and dive deeper into your studies with our focus of hands-on research.

CAREERS

Many biology majors work at for-profit businesses and corporations. Others teach in educational institutions; work for government, nonprofit foundations and research organizations; or operate their own business or consulting service.

Potential jobs include health technologists and technicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, therapists, physician assistants, farmers, foresters and sales (non-retail).

Many students pursue careers in allied health (e.g., medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, mortuary science, dentistry, and optometry) and organismal biology professions (e.g., zookeeper, naturalist, and biologist).

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants to NSU must: Rank in the top 60 percent of their high school graduating class; or achieve an ACT composite score of 18 or above; SAT score of 950 or SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading sub scores total of 870 or above or Earn a GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale in all high school courses and complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade of "C" or higher (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale): Four years of English or ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above or AP English score of 3 or above; Three years of advanced mathematics: Or ACT math sub-test score of 20 or above or AP calculus score of 3 or above; Three years of laboratory science or ACT science reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above or AP science score of 3 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL IBT (61-70 or above); TOEFL PBT (525 or above); IELTS (5.5 or above); PTE Academic (41 or above).
