专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Metropolitan Art Program emphasizes critical thinking as well the integration of research and knowledge into a practical and applied visual language. Students may select a focus on one of our concentrations (studio arts, computer graphic arts, or arts management) or a more general degree by choosing among all areas. It provides an excellent grounding for professions as diverse as law, medicine, and business. In addition, the major prepares students for advanced graduate study in art history, architecture, and cultural studies. It also serves as the foundation for careers in teaching, arts administration, museums, galleries, historic preservation, art libraries, publishing, journalism, advertising, art conservation, and art investment. As the world becomes increasingly flooded with images, critical visual "reading" and “producing” skills become more and more important for a wide variety of careers.

Program Outcomes

• Outcome #1 Students will develop global aesthetic sense.
• Outcome #2 Students will develop the ability to use a variety of art materials and art techniques.
• Outcome #3 Students will develop problem solving skills.
• Outcome #4 Students will develop the ability to assess a situation and decide on the appropriate art strategies to use.
• Outcome #5 Students will develop critical thinking skills through the medium of art and the study of art history.

Program Concentrations

Arts Management:

The concentration in Arts Management is designed to provide undergraduate students with the background to work in gallery, museum and corporate collection industries.

Computer Art & Design:

The concentration prepares the students for work in the Digital Media Industry. The program combines Desktop Publishing, Design for the Web, Multimedia Production, 2D & 3D Computer Animation, Digital Photography and Digital Video.

Graphic Art & Design:

The Design Concentration exposes students to all aspects of graphic design and data visualization with outputs to print, web and smart devices.

Painting/Drawing:

The concentration in Painting/Drawing is designed to provide students with a background to work with colors.
