Welcome to the Master of Leadership (MLE), the flagship award in AC’s Transforming Leadership Program.

Alphacrucis College’s expertise in leadership and record of educating successful leaders speaks for itself. The Master of Leadership course provides a core of leadership knowledge and professional application, while allowing students to explore areas of specific interest in pastoral, educational and business management and influence. The Master of Leadership will produce graduates with in-depth understanding of leadership, integrated with Christian worldview, vocation and community standards. Graduates will be equipped with advanced leadership theory and be able to apply this in practical settings, as well as developing skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course structure is based on three semesters (each of 13 weeks duration), with four subjects taught in each semester. It comprises:

4 core subjects (40 credit points)

3 specialization subjects* (30 credit points)

4 elective subjects (40 credit points)

1 Capstone project** (10 credit points)

To qualify for award of the degree of Master of Leadership a candidate shall accrue an aggregate of at least 120 credit points, including satisfactory completion of the core subjects noted below.

*No specialization is required for the MLead, but should students wish to specialize in Church Leadership or Entrepreneurship, they need to complete the specialization units as specified in this document. Students who do not wish to graduate with a specialization can choose up to 70 cp elective subjects from accredited Level 8 and 9 subjects offered by the College.

**Students who may have potential to pursue a Higher Degree Research course are recommended to choose RES501 (20 credit points) as the capstone instead of RES591 and complete 3 elective subjects (30 credit points).

advanced and integrated understanding of key issues and practices within leadership;

knowledge of scholarship and recent developments in the areas of educational, church or not-for-profit leadership;

understanding of general research principles and methods, and advanced knowledge of specific research approaches used in the selected specialization.

Skills:

Demonstrated ability to:

evaluate, synthesize and critically engage the theoretical knowledge using appropriate methodologies and theories from the discipline;

analyze and synthesize ideas and theories from other disciplines related to the area of specialization;

design a research question that explores a complex issue and to provide possible solution(s) to the problem raised;

communicate effectively complex ideas and proposed solutions to peers and general audiences;

critically evaluate new developments of scholarship in the field of leadership.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates may find employment in ministry or church-based organizations (e.g. senior pastor of a church); become part of the next generation of leaders of not-for-profit organizations; take up leadership or management positions in schools (e.g. Vice-principal), or various management positions in for-profit businesses. Additionally, graduates may progress further in the pathway toward doctoral studies upon completion of this course.

Full-time students may be required to complete some subjects online depending on face to face class availability at selected campuses.

Applicants with Vocational Education and Training: Completion of at least an Australian Level 7 Bachelor degree awarded under the Australian Qualifications Framework (or equivalent overseas qualification). Applicants with a Vocational Education and Training qualification are not eligible for direct entry into this course. Applicants with Higher Education: Completion of an Australian Level 7 Bachelor degree in Ministry or Theology awarded under the Australian Qualifications Framework (or equivalent overseas qualification) OR Completion of an Australian Level 8+ postgraduate qualification in Ministry or Theology awarded under the Australian Qualifications Framework (or equivalent overseas qualification). Applicants with Work and Life Experience: Completion of at least an Australian Level 7 Bachelor degree or (or equivalent overseas qualification). Applicants with no formal higher education are not eligible for direct entry into this course. International Students will be required to show proficiency in English. Specific English requirements for this course are a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 overall, reading 6.5; writing 6.5; speaking 6.5; listening 6.5 (or equivalent).
