What is knowledge? Can we rely on our senses to know what’s real? What makes an action right or wrong? Who are we? How should we live and treat others? Derived from the Greek words, “love of wisdom” philosophy teaches us how we might begin to unpack these types of questions. If you’d like to acquire the critical thinking required to find out these answers, then you may enjoy majoring in Philosophy.

UTSA’s Philosophy Program

A Philosophy degree consists of interdisciplinary topics like the history of philosophy, logic, philosophy of science, aesthetics and more. The coursework will introduce you to basic philosophical problems, ancient and early modern philosophy, logic and ethics and approaches to knowledge and reality. In this program, you’ll develop critical thinking, a close eye when reading, clear writing, and logical analysis—skills that are highly valued by any employer.
